What do Spiritual Guidance, Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Hypnotherapy have in common
with Yoga?
They are all therapies, ways to get help you to "get a life". Spiritual
Guidance assumes that you can use your own deep inner knowing with some Mentoring help. Counseling
teaches some specific life skills, such as how to have good relationships, and how to make money doing what you
love. Psychotherapy uses tools to clear the blocks of past
traumas which would be preventing any of the above from working. Hypnotherapy
bypasses the conscious mind, and it's possible resistances, by working with the sub-conscious mind.
Yoga does all of the above thru the cellular connections to the
mind and to the past.
Which do I use?
I use them all. To check my credentials, and you really should check anyone you are going to allow to help you

A great deal has been written about being SPIRITUAL, but what does it really mean, on a day to day basis, and
more importantly, what can it mean to you?
People like Deepok Chopra, MD; Dick Sutphen, and Caroline Myss have done a lot
of research and have found replicable data. There is no lack of data. I'm going to give you the scientific definitions
and information as I understand it. Let's start simple: Trance, Meditation, Yoga (which is a moving meditation),
Hypnosis, Guided Meditations, Relaxations, and Altered-State-Of-Consciousness are all different words,
meaning almost the same thing. Also audio tapes designed to facilitate any or all of the above, are
all meant to bring you into an ALPHA STATE.
What is an ALPHA STATE?
BRAIN WAVE MEASUREMENTS are taken with an EKG.
What is being measured are the cycles per second of electrical activity in your brain, which can be converted
into beats per minute.
During deep sleep, brain waves are at their lowest
frequencies- you're in the DELTA state -when your brain waves measure around 30 beats per
minute.
If you're wide awake, you're in mid BETA state consciousness, the electrical activity of your brain, converted to beats per minute, is about
850 beats per minute.
When you are in an altered state of consciousness
(as with all Meditation, Hypnosis or audio tapes) your consciousness slows down to the ALPHA state, about 140 beats per minute.
Review measurement of Electrical Activity in the Brain :
Beta State 850
Alpha State 140
Delta State 30
There is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. There is no magic, no mystery, (except the awesomeness and mystery
of life itself!) There is nothing else to it. It's easy to understand, and nothing to harm you, except fear of
the unknown. Every time you fall asleep, as your electrical activity falls from 850 to 30, you go through the 140 range. These
numbers are general averages. Also, often while you drive, you'll find yourself in a "trance", (lowered electrical activity). People
watching TV often go into trance. Anyone who focuses on what they are doing to the point where time seems to disappear is
in a trance. And when in a trance (decreased brain waves) you've increased your level of suggestibility by anywhere from 25
to 250 times.
The difference between Hypnosis and Meditation is how you use your time while in the Alpha State trance.
Back to SPIRITUAL:
Spiritual means higher vibrations. Higher vibrations means Lowered Elecrical Activity. As you go from the Beta
state of consciousness to the Alpha state of consciousness you lower your electric activity and raise your vibrations.
WHAT ARE CHAKRAS?
They are centers of energy in our bodies. Piled up, flat and round, somewhat like CD disks with a few inches
of space in between each disk. Each disk has it's own color, sound, purposes, strengths, etc. according to the rate of the
electrical activity it operates at. Each one of them is twirling around so fast that it seems like they are still. (like the
earth). The disks are between 3 and 5 inches across when healthy. Everyone has all of them, altho many languish from disuse.
Many years ago an M.D., Brough Joy, "found" the chakras by "accident" while examing
patients on his table. As he spoke and wrote this book about his great discovery, he discovered that he had fallen upon the
discovery that was actually made thousands of years ago in India. His book still makes a good read.
Chakras: the first, #1 or root, to #2 or Sacral, to #3 or Solar Plexus, to #4 or Heart, #5 is Throat, #6 is Third Eye,
and #7 is Crown. When you are in an altered state, or Alpha State, you are in your highest chakra, or Crown Chakra.
A simplistic, but more complete explaination of the CHAKRA system which is at the core
of our body, will make it clear that when you are operating out of the 3 lower Chakras (Security #1 Root, Sensation #2 Sacral
, and Power #3 Solar Plexus Centers) you are not being very sprititual. When you operate out of your Heart Center, 4th, you
are getting somewhere, since Love is a vital component of spirituality. (because love and fear cannot exist together). When
you operate from the 5th, 6th or 7th Chakra, the vibrations are higher, and therefore called Higher Consciousness.
It is not necessary to memorize all the above. The very important words to memorize
are: ATTENTION, INTENTION, AND AWARENESS. What is necessary is to learn to focus. Of course, you know how, you just have to
practice doing it at will. Self-Hypnosis teaches you how to focus. Breathing Exercises also help focus. Yoga too,
as I teach it, is a focusing exercise, where you go deep inside and use the coordination of breath with movement to focus
on. All of the seemingly disparate modalities that I teach are all ways to focus. To get to our Higher Consciousness
or our Spiritual Self we must learn to focus.
